Many divorced or separated parents want to make the most out of the time they have with their children. If you are starting the visitation process with your child, there are three general guidelines you should follow to ensure that both you and your child enjoy your time together:
- Plan meaningful things to do during the visit. Meaningful does not have to be expensive; it just means that you put thought into the activity. Consider what your child enjoys or figure out an activity or hobby that you could do together.
- Do not ask your child questions about your ex. Steer the conversation away from any delicate or private things your child may bring up about the other parent.
- Make sure that you follow through and lead a good example for your child. Do not cancel your plans, and do not argue with the other parent in front of your child.
