Interviewer: Hey there everyone, and welcome back to the show. This is your host, Phil, and our next guest here today is Arlene D. Kock, based out of the San Ramon, California area, with her business called Arlene D. Kock, a Professional Law Corporation. How are you Arlene?
Arlene D. Kock: Doing fine, and thank you for having me for this interview.
Interviewer: You’re very welcome, Arlene, so tell us a little bit more about yourself and the law firm and what you guys offer here.
Arlene D. Kock: Sure, I’ve been practicing for over 40 years in the field of family law and in California that would embrace custody, visitation, support, divorce, legal separation and post judgment proceedings that relate to anything associated with family law cases.
Interviewer: Okay, so you’ve been doing this for more than 40 years. You said that’s correct. Okay, so tell our listeners a little bit more about family law. Is it dealing with like separation, like child custody?
Arlene D. Kock: Sure, California is one of many states that have a body of law that’s usually referred to as a Family Law Act. The one that we have here in California was changed back in 1971 before then, we used to have a different body of law, where you had to prove fault, you had to prove abandonment, emotional cruelty, so you could end a marriage in 1971 that law changed, and now you only need to demonstrate irreconcilable differences, which basically means that the parties don’t get along, and there’s no reason to get into the justifications behind it. When I first started practicing in 1978 that was the law that was in effect, this one that we’re talking about now.
Interviewer: Okay, well, what got you started in the field of family law? What led you here to this?
Arlene D. Kock: Well, it was like many people’s professional roads, one that sometimes is somewhat unexpected. I started out as a general practitioner covering everything from personal injury to criminal law cases, both felony and misdemeanor. And then I started to winnow down my practice and really kept a focus on family law. In some respects, it was because the law changed so much where there’s much more behind it than it was. It was a more simplified version of what this field was when I first started practicing, but more importantly, it was an opportunity to really provide service to individuals that were going through a tremendous transformation in their lives, where they are looking at having to divide property, having to deal with children and living arrangements for them that is an entirely different situation than what they had as a nuclear family.
Interviewer: Gotcha. Well, Arlene, was there anything else here you think we should know about you that you want to share with us today.
Arlene D. Kock: No other than it’s been an absolute delight to help as many people as I have. It’s been over 4000 clients that I’ve had over this career path, and I intend to continue to practice for quite some time to come.
Interviewer: Okay, excellent. Well, Arlene, if we would like to reach out to you or work with you here, what’s the best way our listeners could contact you?
Arlene D. Kock: Would be through my law office. The office is all operating remotely for the convenience and ease of our clients. We only handle family law cases, so if you have a case, typically in Northern California, that is where I usually can find my law practice. The office number is 925-743-8666, and you can also find me on arlenekocklaw.com, that’s my website, and that’s spelled A, R, L, E, N, E, K, O, C, K, L, A, W.com.
Interviewer: Okay, well, Arlene, I want to thank you again for joining us on the show today. It was a pleasure chatting with you more about this.
Arlene D. Kock: Thank you. Your pleasure as well. Take care. Have a good day.
Interviewer: You too. The rest of our listeners, stay right here. We’ll be right back after this short break. This is the global Podcast Network where executives and professionals connect, share and inspire. Stay tuned for the conversations that drive success.
